Review of the Ramen: Maruchan Cups

This week, I have eaten a variety of noodle cups from the company Maruchan. As a cheap food connoisseur, I have acquired a special love for these noodles. I wanted to do this review because I'm quite the sucker for easily made food.



Maruchan opened up its doors in the US in 1978, with its product being instant noodles. In 20 years, the company became the top-seller of noodles in the nation. To top it off, Japan rated these instant noodles as the best invention of the 20th century(beating TV, the camera, and Pokemon on the list)! What is so great about this product though?

 
Well, looking at the package should give you a look into God's eyes, but I'll divulge into the specific traits that makes this cup-o-noodles so fantastic. First of all, It's in a Styrofoam cup. This is particularly useful to a customer for several reasons. The foam allows you to hold the container with ease when a scolding-hot liquid is warming up the noodles, and you can eat this meal on the go! This is a big reason that I enjoy Maruchan ramen. Don't have any hot water to cook your meal? No problem. Your dry ramen can be used and eaten in many different ways, from just a plain brick of noodles, to salad topping, to hamburger buns. Hamburger Buns! Another great thing is that there are several unique flavors of ramen for your enjoyment. Some are Chicken, Hot and Spicy Chicken, Shrimp, Cheddar, Jalapeno Cheddar, Beef, and one of my personal favorites, Hot and Spicy Beef. If you want a flavor that isn't listed, all you have to do is add it to the cup!


While Maruchan Cup Ramen has delicious flavors and a very useful cup, there are some bad traits with it. One for instance, is the incredibly high sodium levels each cup contains. For one cup, there is 660 mg of sodium, which is bad because of the next point I bring up. The cups aren't really filling. I mean, I'm an 18 year old guy who eats a ton of food, so it could be just me, but I usually have to consume two ramen cups, a PB & J, and a soft drink to be satisfied with a lunch at school. That isn't healthy, just look at all the carbs, calories, and sodium in that. But, if you're more worried about blowing money on ramen than on medical bills, don't worry. You can buy these cups at almost any grocer for around 35¢ each, which is a really great sales price for any demographic who wants a tasty meal!


So, how do I end my review on this noodley product? I think Maruchan Cup Ramen is a fantastic product. It's very easy to make, versatile, delicious, and innovative for the not-so-culinary person, and while its not too healthy or filling, you definitely get more bang for your buck with this noodle cup.

Horse Racing: Disgusting and Bastardly

Horse Racing has some of the highest forms of torture and violence in any sport in current society. Horses and jockeys alike endure traumatic injuries in a drug-fueled state of competition for sums of money only used to continue the despicable cycle.

Horses have been used for human activities for nearly 3200 years. Early domestication of the equine was intended for use in battle and transportation. To train the horses for conflict, warriors would challenge each other to race and clear obstacles. Slowly, the training of horses for battle decreased, but a new hobby took it's place: Horse racing.

While the ownership of horses has been around for thousands of years, some of the most brutal treatment of these animals has occurred in the past 200 years. By the time horses had mostly left the battlefield, horse racing had become their new torture use. While medical treatment in general was simplistic and ineffective, horses injured during races were either killed on the spot, or kept alive and starved in poor conditions. It is estimated that over a million horses have been killed because of horse racing in the past 100 years around the world.

Some of the worst treatment of horses happens here in the United States. In the US, horse racers are allowed to drug their horses with untested and dangerous chemicals that could easily kill any human being. These drugs can cause serious health problems that ultimately ruin the life of the animal. Often, when these health problems surface, the owners sell the horse to a slaughterhouse or to criminals who take enjoyment in causing the horse pain. Usually, drug use and killing things is considered evil, but here, its a thing to be praised, with horse racing raking in $115 billion annually.

If it were up to me, people guilty of foul horse racing and abuse would be lynched in a horse's stable area, but many feel differently.

"I would never enter my horse in a race like that." says Samantha M., a horse owner. Many equestrians are disgusted with the treatment of horses in racing, and never would participate in such a terrible sport. So next time you see the Kentucky Derby on television, I encourage you to switch the channel if you feel as strongly as I do about the treatment of horses in this despicable sport.


  

More Guns = Less Crime?

In the US, gun ownership has risen,while crime rates have dropped. While the current media encourages the idea that guns are creating more crime, actual statistics show otherwise. In 1994, Congress passed and President Clinton signed the "Assault Weapons" Ban, and within the next three years, violent crime rates had nearly doubled. When the ban expired in 2004, nearly 40% more guns were sold than in previous years. By 2012, the crime rate of the entire US had dropped by 49% from 1993. At the same time, the Federal Bureau of Investigation reported that gun purchases were at an all-time high via background check systems. More people were buying guns. In fact, 70% more women were buying firearms than previously in 2008. Because more citizens were armed, more criminals were reluctant to commit crimes like burglary, rape, assault, and robbery. In a survey of criminals, 3/5 felons admitted that they would not rob a person if they knew their target was armed. In Washington D.C., carrying a firearm outside your home is against the law. Not surprisingly, D.C. has an immensely high rate of violent offenses (1,243.7 crimes per 100,000). In conclusion, guns don't create crimes by themselves, but with bad people using them. Yet if everybody had a gun, the bad guy would think twice before doing evil.

Fictional Reccollection from 9/11

The account mentioned below is fictional, and is made using excerpts from an article found here: http://www.encyclopedia.com/doc/1G2-3401802992.html. It is told from the viewpoint of an off-duty Firefighter called to help the efforts of saving people from the World Trade Centers after two airliners have crashed into the large skyscrapers.

"This morning, I woke up from a phone call. It was from my chief, he said to get my gear and head to the Business District. Once I got down there, I saw my fate: Something tearing a gaping hole into the building and setting it ablaze. When I arrived at the base of the towers, nearly 17 minutes later, similar damage. I could not believe what I was witnessing, a horrible dream had burned itself into a reality. We were escorting one last group out, and life changed. Compounding the horror, a loud roar let out above, and Tower One had collapsed entirely. This fallen steel left us as overwhelmed Americans."

If The Stars Were of Fortune...

"...Under my absolute control, to raise and settle the Sun and Moon on a value of celestial responsibility to which was due to my loyal subjects, the beings of Equestria."

Princess Celestia.

On the prompt idea, "Who would you choose, celebrity or fictional character, to be your best friend? What would you do?", my mind eases to revive my long-secluded imagination at the mere sound of her name. Oh, Such feeling comes to me when I imagine her actually existing! If you are wondering who this "Princess Celestia" person is, here's an answer. Princess Celestia is the ruler of the land of Equestria, a magical place where three types of ponies live and thrive together: Earth, Pegasi, and Unicorns. One Unicorn in particular is Twilight Sparkle, a gifted pony who resided in Canterlot, and attended The School of Gifted Unicorns with Celestia as her personal mentor. Celestia is in charge of raising the Sun everyday, and ruling over Equestria. She used to control the being of the Moon, but relinquished that task to her younger sister, Princess Luna.

So if I were to choose a friend that would be the best of any, I'd say Celestia is my choice. As a friend, I'd feel as though there would be a lesson in everything we'd do together. She would not only be a great friend, but a mentor as well. There would be many tasks to be done, after all, she is the ruler of Equestria. In the Canterlot Palace, we would be up in the late hours of the night, preparing for the exact time where Celestia would use the powerful magic of her being to raise the Sun, ever so gracefully. In the Royal Archives, we would research and read many fascinating entries by the great sorcerer, Starswirl the Bearded. Occasionally, we would visit the smaller places of Equestria, like Manehatten, Appleloosa, Ponyville, Fillydelphia,(Horse-Puns!) the Crystal Empire, and sometimes the Everfree Forest, on royal duties. I wish I could write more about my fictional adventures, but I fear I may have just crossed into creepy fan-fiction territory already. But, I stand by my choice of Princess Celestia being my best fictional friend.

Seriously, if I was to be identified as any animal, I would mostly relate to our Equine friends. So, expect me to go on spouts of admiring horses, ponies, stallions, mares, colts, fillies, unicorns, pegasi, alicorns, and the likes.

Also, I love music.
Music is love, Music is life.
I listen to just about everything, but my favorite genres are Rock, Hard Rock, Metal, Symphonic Metal, Country, and a few others. Some of my favorite bands are Tool, Breaking Benjamin, Chevelle, the Deftones, Megadeth, Caligula's Horse, and 10 Years.

I hate my life, and you can too.

I don't like many things these days, and schoolwork is not one of those things. I also don't like computers, which are required to do this (typing, that is). I don't like waking up early, to go get dressed, and go to a place that I don't like. I don't like talking to many people at this place that I don't like. In fact, chances are, if you're reading this, I don't like you. Oh. What's the worst that you, a person I don't like, can do to me? Tell me that you don't like me? Ha. You would be telling me, who doesn't like you, that you don't like me, while I don't like myself. But enough of me, I don't like divulging into myself, what don't you like?
